Tonsils & Adenoids
Tonsil and Adenoid Obstruction
Tonsils and adenoids are particularly susceptible to infection, especially in children. Recurrent infections can cause significant enlargement of these tissues, leading to difficulties in breathing and swallowing, as well as obstructive sleep apnea. Additionally, congenital enlargement of the tonsils or adenoids can obstruct the airway, resulting in disordered breathing during sleep, mouth breathing, orthodontic and jaw issues, and daytime sleepiness. When these conditions do not respond to antibiotic treatment, surgical intervention, such as tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy, is often indicated to alleviate symptoms
