Neck Masses
Neck masses can arise from various causes
Salivary glands are responsible for producing saliva, which aids in digestion, maintains oral health, and keeps the mouth moist. Common salivary gland conditions include sialadenitis (infection of the salivary glands), sialolithiasis (salivary stones), and tumors, which can be benign or malignant. Symptoms may involve swelling, pain, dry mouth, difficulty swallowing, or the presence of a lump in the gland area. Causes can range from bacterial or viral infections, dehydration, and autoimmune diseases to blockages from stones or tumors.
Tumors in the parotid and submandibular glands, though often benign, require careful evaluation to rule out malignancy. Diagnosis typically involves physical examination, imaging techniques, and sometimes biopsy. Treatment depends on the specific condition and may include antibiotics for infections, procedures to remove stones, or surgical intervention to remove tumors.
